So Thankful!

Yesterday evening I got a frantic call that my two nieces had been in a bad car accident.  My heart dropped into my stomach instantly.  Their dad had called me as he was on his way to the hospital with very little information.  All he could tell me was that one of my nieces had to be life flighted to the hospital and was in bad shape.

I frantically tried to get a hold of my husband who was bartending a wedding at that time.  He raced home and we started getting things ready to make the drive to the hospital, which was about four hours away.

Right in the middle of getting our things packed, their dad called and said that my oldest niece (the driver), was going to be released that night, and that my other niece was showing good progress and the doctors said she would be okay!

We were so relieved to hear that good news!  She's staying one more night for observation tonight, but she is going to be back to her old self very soon!  Apparently for some reason she was the only one out of the two that wasn't wearing a seat belt.  Her head cracked the windshield on impact and left her with a concussion.  She's also burned from the dust off of the airbag.  I had no idea that airbags could do that!  I saw a recent photo of her though and the burns from it on her neck look so painful.

Our whole family is so thankful that the girls are going to be okay!  I am very close to my nieces and have always loved them like my own children.  I hope I never get a call like that again.  I truly was scared out of my mind that I would lose one, or both of them!  This event was one of those reminders that things could change in an instant.  All I can say right now is that I am so thankful.

  4. So glad you were able to get good news. It seems that the younger generation is having more and more accidents or maybe we are just finally paying attention. I already follow your blog thru GFC so today I followed on Facebook. I would love a follow back on Facebook. While you are there, could you check to see if you are following thru GFC? I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so very much and now you can hopefully have a better day and just relax!

  5. Wow! I'm so glad to hear your nieces are okay. It's terrifying. Went through a car crash with my second son (four in the car - it flipped over on a dirt road - they all walked away!)

  7. How scary, I'm so glad they are going to be okay! The dust in air bags does burn pretty bad. When I was in an accident a few years ago it burned my face pretty bad. It feels like a chemical burn. I hope recovery is quick!
