15 Cheap Meal Ideas!

Looking for some budget friendly meal ideas?  We're a family of six so I like to work cheap meals into our menu to help cut costs.  Here's a list of 15 meal ideas that won't break the bank!

  1. Chunky Soup Over A Mound Of Mashed Taters - This is one our family loves and I got the idea from Campbells!  Pick your favorite chunky style soup and pour a couple ladles of it over a mound of mashed potatoes in a bowl.  Yummy!
  2. Biscuits and Gravy - Who doesn't like to have breakfast for dinner on occasion?   Make your own biscuits and gravy from scratch and you get a tasty cheap meal!
  3. DIY Egg McMuffins - Here's another breakfast for dinner favorite of ours.  Get a can of Grands biscuits (or make your own to save even more money!).  Bake the biscuits and then cut them in half.  Pile on a cooked egg, a slice of cheese, and some bacon or a sausage patty.
  4. Chili Dogs - Grab a pack of hotdogs, buns, a couple cans of chili, some shredded cheese, and an onion.  Chili dogs are cheap and tasty!
  5. Stir Fry - All you need here is some rice, some teriyaki sauce, and your favorite veggies!
  6. Hillbilly Housewife Crockpot Taco Stew - Here is a tasty recipe for taco stew that is frugal, yet delish!
  7. Pasta And Veggie Alfredo - For this easy dish all you need is some rotini pasta, a bag of mixed frozen veggies such as (broccoli and carrots mix), and a jar of Alfredo sauce.
  8. Chicken BBQ Cheddar Pitas - Here is a recipe my hubby and kids just love and it is super easy to make!
  9. Chef Salads - Salads are a nice cool meal idea in the summer months.  Just make a green salad with some added veggies like tomato and celery, add some slices of boiled egg, and top off with some seasoned cooked chicken strips.  Add dressing and you are good to go!
  10. Grilled Cheese Sandwiches And Tomato Soup - Make some extra cheesy grilled cheese sandwiches with some tomato soup to dip them in.  Yum!
  11. Drunken Pork Chops - Pork chops are usually pretty inexpensive.  Grab a pack of these and one or two cans of cream of mushroom soup.  Brown your pork chops in a skillet first.  Then transfer to a baking dish and then pour your cans of soup over them and bake until done!
  12. Tater Tot Casserole - For those of you who haven't heard of this cheap, easy, and tasty dish - here's the recipe!
  13. Cheeseburger Macaroni - Here is another one of my family's favorite recipes that adds a twist to your average mac and cheese.
  14. Pigs in a Blanket - My kiddos especially love this one!  Buy a package of hot dogs and a can of crescent rolls.  Roll each hot dog in a crescent roll and bake.  Easy and tasty!
  15. Chicken Quesadillas - Tortillas, shredded cheese, and some cooked chicken is all you need to make some tasty chicken quesadillas.  I like to cook my chicken in taco seasoning to add a kick of flavor!
