{Guest Post} 5 Chores Your Kids Can Do This Summer While You Are At Work

Summertime can be a lot of fun for kiddos, but it can also get kind of mundane. They wake up, eat breakfast, and then zone out in front of the TV for the rest of the day. Make sure this doesn't happen! Don't let your kids turn into TV zombies! Give them a list of chores that they can do so you don't have to do them when you get home from work. It keeps them busy and you won't have to do anything but pour yourself a glass of wine when you walk through the front door after 6 pm.

1. Dust

This is so easy, but it takes forever to do. Especially if you have a staircase with wooden steps. I hate dusting that stupid thing. Anyway, your kids can dust the entire house for you while you are up at work. From the living room to the game room upstairs. Everything will be spick and span by the time you get home! The best part? Dusting is so easy, your four-year-old can do it.

2. Sweep

I used to be the lead teacher of a two-year-old classroom. If there's one thing I learned about tiny tots it's that they love to help clean. They soon grow out of this when they learn how boring it is. But take advantage of their excitement to clean the house while they are still young! Tell them to sweep so you don't have to do it when you get off work.

3. Empty and load the dishwasher

When I was younger, I would always empty the dishwasher but I would never load it. I don't know why but I just loathe loading the dishwasher. So if your kids are anything like I was at 6 years old, they will probably try to pull a fast one on you. Let them know that you need both actions performed adequately or they don't get to watch TV for the rest of the evening. Consequences always worked on me. That dishwasher was unloaded and loaded so fast, you didn't even have time to blink.

4. Pick up their rooms

For some reason, kids keep their rooms disgustingly messy. I don't understand. I mean, we were all guilty of it. I don't think there has ever been a two-year-old who picked up after him or herself when they were done playing with their toys. They simply leave it on the ground and go to the next toy they want to play with, leaving you responsible for cleaning up after them. Have them clean their rooms before you get home from work. It's a task they can and should learn to do as early as two!

5. Vacuum

Vacuuming might be a little too difficult if your child is only four, but if he or she is old enough for it then by all means, give them the vacuum! If there's one thing I hate about cleaning it's the vacuuming process. It takes forever and it makes me sweat. Ick. Believe me, if I had kids, they'd be learning the beauty of vacuuming at quite an early age!
