Kinderfeets Wooden Balance Bike Giveaway

Giveaway is hosted by: Elitemama and Sponsored by: Kinderfeets

About Kinderfeets:
The Kinderfeets is a balance bike, training bike and also a running bike. It provides a great starting point for children to prepare them to ride a conventional two-wheeled bike. The bike is a cleaver alternative to training wheels and it is considered a superior form of learning to balance on two wheels. Kinderfeets was designed by a Dutch designer living in California. He had originally made the bike fore his son because what he wanted was not available.

The Kinderfeets bike has some key features compared to other push bikes: foot pegs for cruising, low step through frame allows for lower setting of the seat, no need to fill any tires, has a washable seat cover and has Chalk-board finish colors. The bike is available in a natural wood finish or in six different colors in Chalk-board finish. The Kinderfeets is for ages 2 and older and it can carry a maximum weight of 70 lbs. It also is patented.

You can read Elitemama's review Here

Fund-Raising for your Child's School or Club – How Recipe Books can Bring in the Dough

Getting a good education is possibly more important than it has ever been and after-school activities help a child to grow and develop (as well as sometimes leading to a future career).  The problem is that these days schools and clubs are often desperately short of funds and often welcome help from parents.  Selling recipe books can be a great way to raise both money and awareness.

Get the other parents involved
Most people know at least one special recipe, whether it's been handed down through their family or found in a newspaper or magazine.  They may also be willing to ask family and friends if they can contribute.  Ideally, when the booklet is created, it should really offer something of value to buyers, so that they feel they are getting a useful recipe book rather than essentially just making a donation.

Get all the children involved
Just because the main focus of the book is on recipes, it doesn't have to contain just recipes typed in black ink on white paper.  Get the children to contribute ideas and ideally some form of artwork or other decoration for the books.  These days it's easy to use scanners or even digital cameras to turn paper artwork into digital pictures which can be included in a book.

Older children may well be able and willing to create their work directly in a computer.  If they do this, you need to emphasize that their contribution has to be completely original.  It's fine to look on the internet for ideas, but they can't just copy what they see there.

Include tips and tricks as well as recipes
Just like with recipes, everybody knows some handy way of making some task easier.  Whether it's using bread to clean up broken glass (it picks up all the splinters and nobody is tempted to reuse it) or running a knife under the lid of a jar to make it open more easily (by breaking the air seal which was keeping it closed), everyone can offer something.  These help to get more people involved and to add extra value to the book.

Add some cooking trivia (or other relevant trivia)
To make your book more interesting, add some fun facts.  Did you know that the size of an egg is directly related to the age of a hen but not at all related to the size of a hen?  How about the fact that during the 1950s Kelloggs Frosties used to be advertised by Katy the Kangaroo as well as Tony the Tiger?  Sticking in some fun facts will make the book more appealing.

Bring it all together
First off, you need to find some cheap booklet printing then you need to put the word on the street that the books are available.  This is where having involved as many people as possible will come in handy.  By this point, there should already be a fair number of people aware of (and hopefully interested in) your books.  This should generate a decent number of orders in itself and early buyers can be encouraged to spread the word, particularly if the book includes a contribution by their child.

Kit MacLean is a freelance writer and translator who loves baking but who very rarely cooks these days on the grounds that her partner is much better in the kitchen than she is.  She's always willing to try new foods, particularly if they include chocolate.  Fortunately she is also the proud owner of a very energetic dog.

Get Up and Go Bowling with AMF Summer Unplugged!

When school lets out and summer rolls around, it is time for fun!  Fun shouldn't be just limited to electronics though, kids and the whole family should get up and enjoy some healthy activities.  One activity my family enjoys is bowling!  It has been a great way to spend quality time together, especially now that the twins are old enough these past few years to bowl without bumpers and really enjoy the game along with the rest of us.  Does your family enjoy bowling?  Who's the best bowler in your family?  I can honestly say that we are pretty evenly matched with our bowling skills in our household.  It's anyone's game as far as who is going to win when we head onto the lanes!

You can keep your kids involved in some healthy, fun, and free activity with the AMF Summer Unplugged deal going on right now!  You can use the link to register up to six children ages 15 and under for this program which includes two free games daily (shoe rental not included).  You can click here to find your local AMF location.  Two games not enough?  Summer Unplugged members can choose the Stay and Play option and bowl additional games for only $1.49 each!

For teens 16 and up, and parents too, you can join in on some bowling savings and fun with the AMF Summer Pass.  You can register up to three guests on the Summer Pass for $34.95 and then you are all set for your registered pass guests to enjoy two games per day all summer long! *Shoe rentals not included.

These programs run until September 2, 2013 and from open until 8pm daily!

Hotels That Seem Too Amazing to be True

Most of the time when you go to a hotel, you’re going to get the same old thing. A traditional looking building, a room – sometimes with a view, sometimes without, and some common areas. However, there are some hotels out there that are just so unique that it’s almost hard to believe they’re real.

Jade Mountain Resort – St. Lucia

At the Jade Mountain Resort, the floors are divided into sanctuaries. These sanctuaries offer living areas, sleeping areas, and infinity pools that all seem to be floating into the landscape. The spa at Jade Mountain offers a variety of offerings, including complimentary yoga classes. In addition, there are a variety of food options, from eating in your sanctuary at any time to eating in one of the amazing restaurants in the resort. In these rooms, you won’t find a television or phone, so be ready to be transported to nature.

Poseidon Undersea Resort – Fiji Islands

Not only is this resort located in Fiji, it’s located underwater. You can get to the resort, which lies 40 feet underwater, through elevators. The undersea suites offer you a view like you’ve never seen before.  The rooms have Jacuzzi tubs and luxury bed linens, as well as a large-screen TV. You will be able to see the native wildlife, as they go swimming by. Plus, the hotel features items such as a 9-hole golf course, health club, and tennis court. On top of that, you can go deep-sea diving or take an underwater cruise.

Kingsford Homestead – on the North Para River, Australia

This hotel was once a home to Stephen King, who came to Australia in 1839. Currently, there are only seven suites in the hotel, including the Stonemason’s Cottage, which is a separate building. Kingsford Homestead has a long history, and one of the most well-known pieces of it is that it was featured in the television show McLeod’s Daughters. Today, you can rent rooms or you can rent out the entire building. They offer an all-inclusive price, which includes all of your drinks, as well as breakfast and dinner.

Palacio Nazarenas – Peru

Have you ever been interested in staying in a convent? When you stay at the Palacio Nazarenas, that’s exactly what you’re doing. The hotel has 55 suites and easily combines modern luxury with Incan history. You don’t have to worry about altitude sickness, because the hotel pumps in enriched oxygen, which you can choose to have scented in your room. With an in-suite boutique, bar with espresso and tea making options, and 24 hour butler service, you simply can’t go wrong. Consider venturing out to take in some of the Inca culture all around you, as well.

Whether you are considering staying at one of the most amazing hotels in the world or you’re looking for one of the best Wisconsin hotels, the best thing to know is what you want. What makes a hotel isn’t the price. What makes a hotel the most amazing is whether or not it offers what you’re looking for.

Thinking of Earning a Degree From Home?

Single mothers, stay-at-home moms, working fathers and divorced couples may find that the idea of going back to college is overwhelming. After all, if you already have a family, a job and children who demand a lot of your attention, you may feel that the opportunity to go to college is out of your reach. Fortunately, with online college degrees, the opportunity to go to school is well within your grasp.

You can apply to an online college and earn your degree from home. One of the best reasons to apply to an online school is simply that you can learn at your own pace. This means that if your kids need a nap, you can do your homework while they sleep. If you have to work an expected shift, you can make sure to do your schoolwork ahead of time. Don't let the financial cost of college turn you away from college.

While many students choose to take out student loans, there are a variety of other options available. For example, you can fill out the FAFSA and apply for scholarships and grants that will help with the cost of your tuition and fees. Additionally, many colleges offer a number of scholarships for new and transfer students. Students who have special skills or are part of a minority group may also qualify for student scholarships. Ask your guidance counselor or financial aid adviser about scholarship opportunities that you qualify for.

Finally, make sure that when you decide to go to school online that you do not take too many classes. Some students feel overly eager and take a full course load. Realize that you may not be ready for a full course load and that it's okay. If you have a heavy work schedule or your children are high need, you may need to take just a few classes at a time or even just one class at a time. This is perfectly fine and a good way to get your feet wet when it comes to college. If you ever feel overwhelmed with college or any of your classes, you can speak with your professors. Most professors are willing to speak with students through email, chat or over the phone to help their students feel comfortable with the class, the homework and any assignments. If you ever don't understand anything, make sure you ask your teacher to clarify it for you.

Smart Snacking with Jolly Time Smart Balance Popcorn - Giveaway

Jolly Time wants to help you start snacking smart with their Smart Balance line of popcorn, available in both Butter and Butter Light varieties.  Jolly Time knows how important it is to lead a healthy balanced diet, that's why their Smart Balance popcorn is made with a special patented blend of oils that help support heart health.  Jolly Time Smart Balance Popcorn is made with 100% whole grain kernels, zero grams of trans fat, and zero hydrogenated oil.  Not only will you be snacking healthier, you will still enjoy the taste you know and love from Jolly Time!

Thanks to Jolly Time I recently tried their Smart Balance Butter and Butter Light popcorn varieties in my own home with my family.  Popcorn is a regular item on my shopping list that my whole family likes to enjoy as a snack, usually for our movie nights.  Jolly Time is our regular brand, and before this review we were previously purchasing the regular Jolly Time Butter popcorn.  Since I'm always trying to get my grocery shopping done as quickly as possible, I have to admit I had never previously noticed the Smart Balance varieties on the shelf.

After trying both the Smart Balance Butter and the Smart Balance Butter Light Popcorn varieties, I have to admit I like a little more butter to my popcorn, so I myself preferred the Smart Balance Butter Popcorn.  The rest of my family seemed to be divided down the middle on which one they liked best!  What I liked most about them though is that they had great flavor for being a light heart healthy popcorn.  I doubt I would have even known they were a light popcorn if I hadn't seen the box.  They were really that good!  I love the fact that these varieties are both low in calories and fat content, making them truly a guilt free snack option that can make for some smart snacking!

Be sure to connect with Jolly Time on Facebook and Twitter!

Who Wants To Win Some Free Jolly Time Smart Balance Popcorn?

(2) Lucky readers of Textbook Mommy are going to each win 2 Free product coupons to get some boxes of their own Jolly Time Smart Balance Popcorn!

Giveaway Ends:  June 30, 2013 at Midnight EST

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

What You Should Know Before Hiring A Babysitter

Just because you have kids, doesn't mean you are forever doomed to stay at home to look after them. Your friendly neighborhood babysitter is here to help you get out of the house. The trouble is finding that friendly neighborhood babysitter instead of some less-than-qualified hopeful. Your kids need to be with someone who knows what to do when times get tough, and they also need to be with someone you can trust.

Finding The Right Babysitter

There are many places to look for a good babysitter. Start by asking around your workplace, church, and family friends. Try to find more than one name. Have a few people in mind to interview in case finding the right fit is a bit more difficult than you anticipated. Get as many references from your candidates and be sure to check them out thoroughly. Ask the references how long the babysitter worked for them and if they had any problems with the babysitter. Make sure the reference really liked using the babysitter. Have a thorough interview with the babysitters that you do like.

Have The Babysitter Come Over Early

On the first day of babysitting, have your chosen babysitter come over early about 30 minutes early. This will be a good time to go over the house rules and make sure they know what to do in an emergency. Provide your babysitter with emergency contacts, including other family members in case you don't reach your phone. Tell your babysitter what your kids are and are not allowed to do. It is better for the babysitter to come early so you can talk everything out without rushing out the door.

Talk After You Get Back

Be sure to talk to your babysitter when you get back home. Ask them how it went and if there was any problem with the kids. Babysitters can be critical of themselves if the kids act up, but sometimes the problem is really the kids. Communicate with your babysitter. See what they and your kids needs to work on. You may need to sit down and discuss with your kids about their behavior. Some kids like to take advantage of babysitters since they are not their parents, but if a parent is there to support the babysitter afterwards, it may go smoother next time.

Keep Watch

Give your babysitter a call a little while into the babysitting. Even better, get an alarm system with cameras. I recently just got one from a company that I found near my city that provided Sherman home security . Having your babysitter on camera can help make sure they treat your children right and are not doing undesirable things in your home. I found a company that lets you view live feeds from your smart phone. This way, you can watch over your kids and the home while you are out and about. You don't need to keep pestering your babysitter when you can see what is going on right in your hands!

4 Things Easily Forgotten When Going On Vacation

Ask any mom, the week before leaving on a vacation is always hectic and chaotic. Packing for a vacation can be extremely stressful and time consuming. When going on vacation packing is not the only thing that you have to prepare for. Here are a few things that you need to prepare for outside of your suitcases.

1. Mail
When you go on vacation the world does not stop and one of the things that keep going is the mail system. A lot of people completely forget about their mail when they go out of town. If your mail box becomes full the mail man will no longer be able to deliver your mail and he will return it to the post office and you will have to pick it up from there. Also a mail box full of mail is a great indicator to a thief that there is no one home, making your home an instant target. The best way to prevent these issues is to ask a friends or family member to pick up your mail for you or have the post office put your mail on hold. In order to have your mail put on hold you will have to go up to your local post office and fill out a form. When you get home from vacation you will have to go up to the post office and pick up all of your mail.

2. Plants
Have you ever come home from vacation and all of your plants are dead because you  have not been water all week or longer? This happens to so many people because it’s the farthest thing from their mind when preparing to go out of town. The best way to solve this problem is to have a friend, neighbor, or family member that you trust come over and water your plants for you. This way they can also check on your house and make sure that nothing has happened to it.

3. Neighbors
If you do not have plants that need to be watered you still need someone to keep an eye on your home. Your neighbors are the prefect people for the job. Reason being, that they don’t have to go very far to do this favor for you. Most people have a close enough relationship with their neighbors to ask them to keep an eye on their home for a week or so. If you have a neighborhood crime watch organization letting them know you will be out of town is extremely smart. This way they can watch your home extra closely.

4. Security System
There are a lot of people who do not have a home security company and don’t see the great importance it is to have one. Going on vacation is one of the most important times to have a home security company. I choose Smith Monitoring a Pasadena home security provider, as my home security company because they will install security cameras inside and outside of your home. This way while I am out of town if I want to check on my house I can view a live feed of my home via smart phone, Ipad, or desk top. This is a great feature that will give you peace of mind when on vacation.
