Why Taking Care of Me is Important For My Kids

I know I am a role model to my four girls. I know that as they grow up they will scrutinize everything I do and every choice I make. I’d like to think that they will choose to be like Mom when they’re older, but I also know there will be times when they want to do it differently. I’m absolutely determined to teach my kids to be the best they can be. This means I should be at my best at all times too.

There have been times in the past when I have felt a little frumpy. I’ve had four kids, so I think my body has been through some excessive changes! But I don’t have to be a frumpy Mom. I have every right to be the chic woman I was. I’m not just a Mom, but also an intelligent, ambitious and beautiful woman. And I want my kids to feel the same about themselves too.

Self-image is important if it helps you feel good. And that means we might need a little help with it from time to time. After all, who hasn’t had some work done on their teeth, or run a color through their hair. Little enhancements go a long way to making us feel good about ourselves. As a mommy, my body has been through it all. And yes, I have looked up things like a mommy makeover procedure as a way to give me back the body I was always so proud of.

It’s not just the beautiful body that us mommies miss when we enter Motherhood. Sleep is so important and so rare as a parent. But if you want your kids to make the most of their bedtimes, you too have to value getting good quality sleep. A good night of sleep makes the world of difference to your emotional well-being as well as helping to prevent the signs of aging creeping up too fast.

Education is so important to me. I hope I’m setting a really good example by taking the time now to pursue a course I’m passionate about. I like to think the girls will value their education more and work hard to get good grades. But I also see myself as a teacher to my kids. I need to be there to guide them through life lessons. I value social graces, so I teach my children to behave appropriately in all the situations they may find themselves in.

I also make the effort to eat well and exercise. For me, this is leading by example. I’m not going to push a strict diet on the girls. I want them to enjoy the foods they like rather than fearing mealtimes. But I am going to eat and provide all I can that is healthy. And I’m going to show them that exercise is fun and enjoyable. Being fit and healthy is so important, and I hope they see that in me.

I love my children, and I love that they forgive my mistakes. As a SAHM I am there for them as much as they need me to be. In those times we are together, I hope I’m showing them the woman they will aspire to be.
