5 Reasons Why Nursing Can Be a Great Career Choice

There are few professional careers that offer as many emotional and practical rewards as nursing.  And although it is an exhausting choice of career, those who have passion, and strong, intelligent traits are sure to find it a rewarding one.  And, with the US Bureau of Labor Statistics predicting a 16% growth in nursing over the next ten years, there has never been a better time to begin education.  Want to know why nursing could be the perfect career choice?  Keep reading to find out.

1. You Can Make a Difference
One of the main reasons why people embark on a nursing career is to make a difference in people’s lives.  And, making a difference doesn’t only involve caring for someone until they are back on their feet, it can also involve educating others about medications, diet, or a healthy lifestyle.  Psychiatric nurses can also teach patients how to deal with the stresses in their daily lives, and how to cope with everyday problems.

2. Schedules are Flexible
You may be thinking that a job in nursing will have you working unsociable for hours for the foreseeable future.  However, not all jobs in nursing are like this.  In fact, you’ll find many employers are flexible and offer to schedule work hours according to their employees’ needs.  This is especially true in the more competitive nursing fields.

3. A Good Salary
The mean annual salary for registered nurses, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, was $71,000 in 2015.  The lowest 10% of nurses earned just over $46,000 per year, whilst at the higher end of the scale, the top 10% earned over $100,000 annually.  Of course, nursing salaries do depend on the specialty you are trained to do, and where you work.  A nursing consultant may choose to charge by the hour, whereas a nurse employed for a cruise ship may earn around $60,000 over a six month stint.  Taking further courses, for example anesthesia courses through Valley Anesthesia, can also help to increase your wage.

4. The Industry is Growing
As we mentioned above, the healthcare industry is growing and this is good news for those who are currently undertaking their CRNA Boards.  The Affordable Care Act made it possible for more Americans to gain access to healthcare.  This is one of the things that has created a higher demand for nurses.  The other is the number of nurses entering into retirement.

5. Benefits and Tuition Packages
Because of the current demand for nurses, many employers are offering generous benefits packages to those who work for them.  Many are also offering to reimburse tuition for those who go on to specialize in certain disciplines.  Benefits include such things as on-site daycare, pensions, and insurance packages.
Although nursing is a demanding career, there are now more reasons than ever as to why it is a good career choice.  If you are thinking of entering into a new career, and have a true passion for helping others to live a more satisfying life, nursing could be a great choice.
