Dermagist Acne Scar Fading System: Retails for $89.99

Before and After Photo of a Dermagist Acne Scar Fading System User

Thanks to the folks at Dermagist, I had the opportunity to review their Acne Scar Fading System for myself.  My teen years had left me with some acne scars that while I was able to cover with makeup products, I still felt uncomfortable about.  I was anticipating trying this system to see if it would actually help fade my scars.  This system comes with two products - a Detoxifying Cleanser and the Acne Scar Fading Cream.  The exfoliating Detoxifying Cleanser help to clean your skin and keep acne away, while also soothing the skin with ingredients like Aloe Vera and Chamomile Extract.  The Acne Scar Fading Cream reduces redness and other discoloration caused by acne scars.  This cream is not harsh like some other fading creams, and like the cleanser, this product contains soothing ingredients like Aloe Vera and Shea Butter.

I tried the Acne Scar Fading System for 30 days.  Within a week I started noticing a reduction in the discoloration of my scars.  I also noticed less redness in my face overall.  By the end of the 30 days I noticed a dramatic difference from the start of this system.  I now feel very confident going around without any concealer if I choose to.  This is something I would have never left the house without before.  It's that big of a difference!  The Detoxifying Cleanser is doing a great job of keeping new pimples away and this is a product I will continue to use for sure.  The products have a pleasant smell, not chemically like some other brands.  I would highly recommend the Dermagist Acne Scars Fading System to anyone out there that wants to improve the overall look of their skin.  The cost of this system is well worth the results in my opinion.

Donate Your Old Eyeglasses And Help Others

Fresh from the eye doctor this morning with my husband to get our prescriptions updated, I came home to browse all the eyeglass websites to see what new pair would catch my eye.  I came across a website called OneSight during my search.  OneSight.org  is dedicated to helping people see clearer around the world.  They collect gently used pairs of eyeglasses and non-prescription sunglasses to recycle and deliver to those in need.

Although I don't wear glasses full time, I do need them to drive.  Without them I would be lost.  I can't imagine what it would be like to need eyeglasses and not have access to own a pair.  What OneSight.org is doing is amazing and I think it's such a great idea!  You can order a collection kit to start a drive in your area here or go to one of the stores below to donate your eyeglasses.

No Kid Hungry Campaign

As a member of Mom Bloggers for Social Good, I wanted to share with you the No Kid Hungry Campaign.  Hunger in our country is a very serious issue, and this affects the children of our nation and their ability to do the things they need to succeed, such as concentrate in school.  Teachers are taking note of how this affects their students.  In fact, 3 in 5  K-8 public school teachers say students regularly come to school hungry.  That's an alarming number!  The impact of this prevents children from being able to concentrate in school, but also creates an overall poor academic performance and physical symptoms like headaches and stomach pains.

Family Reaches Out To Help Toddler Fight For His Life

One thing I am very passionate about is urging people to sign up as a bone marrow donor.  You may have seen a previous post of mine I wrote in March about the how's, and why's of registering.  You can view that post here.  This time around I wanted to share a touching story of a family who is reaching out to the public to help find a bone marrow donor for their son Quinlan.  Quinlan is 20 months old and has been diagnosed with M7 AML, which is the lesser common strain of the two main forms of leukemia that is found in children. Quinlan's best chances of survival are through finding a bone marrow donor match.  Finding a donor is not an easy task, as only 1 in 20,000 ever get the call to come forward and donate.  With every new donor registered, those chances become just a little brighter!
When you register to become a bone marrow donor through DKMS, you join 3.5 million others who have joined in the fight!  You can order your free swab kit here, or by clicking the widget at the top of this post!  This link will also provide you with how the donation process works and if you are eligible to become a donor or not.  You can also check to see if any local drives are coming to your area by taking a peek at their event calender here.  It looks like Illinois, Missouri, New Jersey, and Wisconsin have some coming up soon!

Super Simple Blackberry Pie Recipe

blackberrypierecipe

The kids went on a blackberry picking fest today and I thought a blackberry pie for dessert was in order.  Here's a super simple recipe for blackberry pie that takes very little time to prepare but tastes fantastic!  We had ours warm topped with vanilla ice cream.  Yummy!

Ingredients:
4 cups of fresh blackberries
1/2 cup of sugar + 1/4 cup of sugar
1/2 cup of all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons of milk
1 box of Pillsbury Pie Crusts

Directions:
1)  Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
2)  In a bowl, combine 3 1/2 cups of blackberries with your 1/2 cup of flour and your 1/2 cup of sugar.
3)  Take one of the pie crusts and lay it down in the bottom of your pie dish.  Fill with your berry mixture.
4)  Add your remaining 1/2 cup of blueberries on top of your mixture evenly.
5)  Cover with your remaining pie crust.  Seal and crimp the edges.  Cut a couple small vents for the steam to escape.
6)  Brush top of crust with milk and then sprinkle your remaining sugar on top.
7)  Bake for 15 minutes.  Then reduce heat to 375 and bake for 20 minutes.

Promoting Good Study and Homework Habits for Kids

Promoting good study and homework habits for our children is a great way to set them up for success, as well as keep them focused and on track.  As summer ends and a new school year begins, it can be a little difficult to transition them back into their school time routines.  Here are some great tips for getting them back into the swing of things!

1)  Create a Set Schedule:  Set a time when homework is to be completed and be sure to stick to that schedule.  For my girls, homework is done when they get home from school after eating a snack.  They know the schedule and they know that mom doesn't waver on it!  If they want to have fun playing outside with their friends, they have to do their homework.  Also, be sure they have a distraction free space where they can focus clearly on their work.

2)  Set a Good Example:  One of the best things you can do is refer to school, and particularly homework and studying in a positive light.  We all know that kids are sponges and they will be likely to mimic our attitudes and opinions.  Show them that learning is fun and they will be more likely to follow your lead!

3)  Be Involved:  Ask your child daily what their assignments are and make sure they know you are available to help them if needed.  Parents also can be a great help with studying!  You can quiz your child on their material and it's a good way to spend some quality time together.  It's also a good idea to stay in contact with your child's teacher so that you can periodically check in to see how your child is doing in school and this is also a great way to see what areas they may be struggling in.

4)  Make Sure They Have the Tools to Succeed:  I like to frequently check to make sure the kids have a good stock of notebook paper, pens, pencils, etc.  Keep them stocked up on supplies so that they have what's necessary to complete their assignments.

The great folks over at WholesaleHalloweenCostumes.com gave me the opportunity to review one of their many costumes for kids.  My oldest jumped on the chance to get this Psycho Clown costume.  Scary isn't it?  There were so many scary costumes to pick from, it was almost hard to pin it down to just one!  Even though it kind of creeps me out, I actually like it.  It even glows in the dark!  Shipping was fast and the costume itself is very good quality.  This particular costume comes with the pants, top, and mask.  We are going to pick up some white gloves to go with it before Halloween to complete the look!

We all definitely got a little scared at the sight!
