How to Know You’ve Found the Lawyer for Your Case

There are many reasons you might need a lawyer. Perhaps you had a slip and fall,
experienced discrimination at work or are facing a wrongful conviction (here’s how to
get help for a wrongful conviction). Or maybe you had an accident whilst driving.
Whatever the reason, it can be difficult to know whether you’ve found the lawyer for
you, especially if you haven’t needed legal representation before. The legal system
can be confusing and stressful, so you need to know that your lawyer will work hard
to get the best outcome for your case. But how do you know if you’ve found the
lawyer that is suited to you?

They have a good track record

Your lawyer should have plenty of experience in their field and will have a good track
record for cases like yours. You can find out about a lawyer’s track record by
meeting up with them in person and asking the right questions. If they are able to
demonstrate similar cases that have had successful outcomes, the chances are
you’ve found the lawyer for you.

They communicate well

Lawyers should always be effective communicators. They speak to clients,
witnesses and other lawyers daily, and know how to use the art of language to get
tangible results. Your lawyer should be an excellent communicator, and should
always keep you up to date with the events of your case. They will speak clearly and
won’t use an excessive amount of legal jargon. They should always check in with
you to make sure you understand what is happening and what the next steps are. If
your lawyer isn’t communicating well and you often feel confused or out of the loop,
you may not have the one for you. Make sure you address this early on, and get
representation elsewhere if necessary.

They are highly recommended

Your lawyer may have been recommended to you by a friend or family member. This
person will know you well and will understand what you need from your legal
representation. Alternatively, the lawyer may have a number of positive reviews and
recommendations online. Wherever the recommendation comes from, others will
have received an excellent service and want you to benefit from this particular lawyer
or law firm.

You trust them

The most important factor in a lawyer-client relationship is trust. A lawyer will
represent you if the case goes to trial, and therefore you need to know that they have
your best interests at heart and will do the job properly. If you don’t trust your lawyer,
the relationship will be negative and stressful, and you won’t be able to let them do
their job. So, you’ll know you’ve found the lawyer for your case if you feel you can
fully trust them. If you’re able to acknowledge the fact that they are a trained
professional with experience in the field and let them get on with their job, then this is
the lawyer for you.
